QUT set to sparkle in HART Sapphire Series

Netball Queensland is pleased to announce the Queensland University of Technology have been awarded a licence to compete in the 2021 HART Sapphire Series.

QUT Netball will field a team in both the HART Sapphire and Ruby series, expanding the competition to eight teams in both divisions.

In a further boost for the new franchise, they will be based at the home of netball in Queensland, Nissan Arena, as they represent the Brisbane Central region in the traditional QUT colours of blue, white and orange.

Netball Queensland High Performance Director, Demelza Fellowes, believes QUT will be a welcome addition to the competition.

“It is very exciting to welcome QUT Netball into the 2021 HART Sapphire Series,” Fellowes said.

“QUT have held a relationship with the HART Sapphire Series and pathway competitions for a number of years, and to now be expanding that presence with an elite Club of their own is a testament to their belief in the value of the League and the integral role netball plays in the lives of Queenslanders.”

“Expanding the competition through the introduction of an eighth Club provides further opportunities to raise up local heroes, inspire communities and see Queenslanders realise their potential through netball.”

“QUT join the family of respected universities who are stabilising the professionalism of our HART Sapphire Series Clubs and we look forward to what they will bring to the competition in 2021.”

With their licence secured, QUT Netball’s focus now turns their recruitment drive as they look to build two formidable teams ahead of their inaugural season.
