Queensland’s premier netball competition, the HART Sapphire Series has reached the business end of the season with the 2021 Semi Finals to be contested this Sunday, August 1.
Following the regular season, the top four teams in both the Sapphire and Ruby divisions will take to the court at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena in their goal of being crowned the 2021 Champions.
Netball Queensland High Performance Director, Demelza Fellowes, said the 2021 Final Series is set to be the most exciting since the league was introduced in 2019.
“The third edition of the HART Sapphire Series has been the best to date, with the quality of athletes and standard of play going to new heights this season.
“While the Brisbane North Cougars were minor premiers in both the Sapphire and Ruby divisions, all teams who have qualified for their respective finals series could take out this year’s title and it starts this Sunday with the major and minor semis.
“Whether attending in person or watching via the free livestream coverage, fans and netball enthusiasts will witness some of the country’s finest emerging talent, in what will be a fiercely contested and entertaining final series,” concluded Fellowes.
In the Sapphire division, the Cougars will head into the Final Series as favourites having gone through the regular season undefeated. They will meet QUT Netball in the Major Semi Final on the Show Court at 3.00pm, with the winner to progress straight to the Grand Final on August 14.
In the Elimination Semi Final, it will be USQ Jets – who finished the regular season in third position on the ladder – going up against USC Thunder, with the first centre pass at 1.00pm.
On Court 4, the second division Ruby Series Semi Finals will take place at 1.00pm and 3.00pm, with Minor Premiers, the Cougars, first up against Carina Leagues Club Tigers in the Major Semi.
At 3.00pm, the Barastoc Darling Down Panthers will take on the Jets in the Elimination Semi, where the winner will win through to the Preliminary Final at Nissan Arena on August 7.
